Buying lumber in Texas

Texas needs a regional rather than statewide shorthand: East Texas supports a major pine and hardwood economy, while much of the rest of the state relies more heavily on distribution into large markets.

Texas A&M Forest Service identifies pine-oak, oak-pine, upland hardwood, bottomland hardwood, mesquite, and juniper woodland regions. Its 2024 sector report describes softwoods—especially pine—as the majority of East Texas timber volume.
