Buying lumber in Pennsylvania

Pennsylvania's lumber market is anchored in an extensive hardwood resource, with oak-dominated forests across much of the state and northern hardwoods in the northern tier and higher elevations.

Pennsylvania DCNR reports that forests cover more than 60 percent of the Commonwealth, about 16.6 million acres. Its major forest types include mixed oak and northern hardwood forests; the state's Hardwoods Development Council also identifies black cherry as a distinctive resource.
